On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, asthe Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

In John 7:37-39 Jesus gave a prophecy about the Spirit that would later come and referred to him as the living water. The symbolism of water in the Bible is used in numerous verses to refer to the Spirit of God. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. Water is mentioned in the second verse of the Bible, in Genesis 1:2
